Anchorage Football Officials Association

Fellow Officials:
The start of the 2011 football season will be here soon. The first high school tackle football games are scheduled to begin the week of August 12th & 13th, and the ASD Girls Flag Football Season will begin Monday, August 22nd. Once again it’s time to assemble our uniforms and equipment to determine what we might need or replace. Remember a clean uniform gives a good impression. Also it is a great time to get outside and exercise and get into shape, (the good impression thing again!)
We still have contracts with the Anchorage School District for both Tackle and Flag Football games as well as contracts with all the Valley High Schools. The Anchorage School District has arranged their tackle schedule similar to last season. Most C-Team games will be played on Wednesdays and most JV games will play on Thursdays at their respective home schools. Varsity games will continue to play on Friday’s and Saturday’s. The four Valley High Schools will continue their same schedule format as in previous years: C-Team on Tuesdays and JV & Varsity Games back-to-back Fridays or Saturdays.
AFOA will continue to work five official crews for all C-Team, JV and Varsity games. This will allow us to continue our training and evaluation opportunities during all games throughout the season.
On Saturday July 16th and 30th, we will conduct an all day “Tackle” training clinic; the Classroom Session will begin at 9:00 am at the 1st National Bank conference room at 1751 Gambell Street. We will then break for lunch (provided) and then resume in the classroom for the remainder of the afternoon. Officials who attend the Alaska Football Officials Camp in June will not be required to attend an AFOA Classroom Session. Officials who are unable to attend any of the afore mentioned training dates will be required to complete the online “Crew of 5 Course” certification within the USA Football web site http://www.usafootball.com/, for on-field tackle officiating eligibility.
There will also be a mandatory on-field scrimmage participation August 6th, (location and times TBA).
The Girls Flag Football training clinic will be Sunday, August 14th at the 1st National Bank conference room at 1751 Gambell Street, at 1:00 PM.
We highly encourage everyone to call Girls Flag Football this season. We also anticipate several ASD Girls Flag Football games to be scheduled prior to CIFC Varsity tackle games this season. To allow you more Varsity participation opportunities and scheduling availabilities again we recommend calling Girls Flag Football this season.
Books and application forms for both AFOA and ASAA will be available at all sessions. Our Association fee will be $15 and the ASAA fee will be $60, which will include the NFHS Rule Book. Other books are $7.50 to $10 each. We highly encourage purchasing the Case Book as well as the Officials Manual.
